Pordenone's civic collections of 20th century art have been created over time thanks to donations, bequests and targeted purchases, as well as through research carried out during various exhibition initiatives, thereby guaranteeing the offer of a historic artistic panorama which is important both thanks to the presence of genuine masterpieces by artists of national and international renown, and as regards artistic production more specifically linked to the Friuli-Veneto area.
The "Collezione Zacchi Ruini" is particularly significant. It was purchased by the Municipality of Pordenone, with the help of a large contribution from the Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia.
It includes works by some of last century's most important artists, from Picasso to Chagall, from Savinioto to Fontana, and from Fiume to De Chirico.
Early 20th century movements are represented in the civic collection, characterised by works linked to "vedutismo" and the typical naturalistic climate of Veneto. The lines of thought in these artistic productions indicate different formal directions.
The Galleria d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Pordenone is named after Armando Pizzinato. From 1971 onwards, the artist dedicated particular attention to the city Museum, which had then just moved to its current location in Palazzo Ricchieri.
The 20th century collection includes numerous works by the painter Di Maniago, purchased from his family back in the 1970s, when a retrospective was held. The stores also house many of the painter's documents, starting from his period as a student at the Accademia di Venezia, which provide us with extensive, in-depth information about him.
